The Best of Boulder in Summer 2013

Whether you are a native Boulderite looking to make the most of the summer, a mountain man craving something cosmopolitan, or a Denver city-slicker in need of an out-of-town getaway, the fun never runs out in Boulder, Colorado. Bustling with culture and commerce, this laid-back college town boasts some of Colorado’s best art venues, dining options, and brewpubs. Also, Boulder is one of the fittest cities in the country, with limitless active outings to choose from. Plan your trip to Boulder around one of these summer events for a visit you won’t soon forget.

Boulder has too much good food for one visit. Pick a favorite in 5280’s restaurant reviews, grab a picnic at the Boulder Farmers Market (Wednesdays 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Saturdays 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.), plan a meal around free concerts like the Pearl Street Mall’s Band on the Bricks series (Wednesdays 5:00-9:00 p.m., 1300 block) or Noon Tunes (Fridays 12:00-1:30 p.m.), or do a food tour. Local Table Tours provide a great overview of Boulder’s bar and restaurant scene; check out their Taste of Boulder Dining Tours (Saturdays 2:30 p.m.), Cheese Tasting Tours (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, 2:00 p.m.), Coffee and Pastry Tours (Saturdays 10:30 a.m.), Beer Tasting Tours (2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, 2:00 p.m.), and Cocktail Tasting Tours (Thursdays 3:30 p.m.).

If you want to learn more about beer, don’t miss the Boulder History Museum’s exhibit “Beer! Boulder’s History on Tap,” running from March 15th to October 27th this year. And if you want to learn more about food, try Awe-Struck Outdoors’ Bike to Farm Tour (Thursdays and Sundays 4:30 p.m.). Take a guided bike tour from downtown Boulder to the 63rd Street Farm, tour the property, and enjoy a three-course meal!

For pure fitness, Boulder has everything. Try Outdoor Yoga Drop-In Classes (Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:15-8:15pm), Boulder Mountain Bike Tours (daily 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.), Horseback Rides (every day except Monday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), Rock Climbing Lessons (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.), or Fly Fishing Classes (weekdays 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.). Check out the Community Boot-Camp Trail Workout that incorporates rocks, trees, benches, and steps to turn a nature jog into a full-body workout (2nd Saturday of the month, 8:15 a.m.-9:30 a.m.). If you just like to dance, try Salsa Dancing (Saturdays 8:30 p.m.-1:00 a.m.), Dances of Universal Peace (2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, 7:15 p.m.), or Dancing with Waves (Fridays 10:30 a.m.). And if none of this sounds good, you’d probably enjoy the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
