Summertime in the Colorado Rockies The States Biggest Secret

Shhhh! Let’s keep this between you and us. Colorado’s claim to fame might be the state’s extraordinary winter skiing, but summer in the Rockies is nothing short of exceptional. There are plenty of activities that keep our tax planning and preparation experts busy until the sun goes down during the summer. Here are just a few things to be sure you check out this summer:

White-knuckle Whitewater Rafting

As the snowpack melts in the mountains, Coloradoans with a sense of adventure are gearing up for the beginning of whitewater rafting season when the runs are fabulously fierce! As the water races downhill fueled by sunshine and gravity, river runners get the ride of their lives! If you want a more laid-back and scenic run, wait until August to ride any of Colorado’s rivers where rafting companies are available to navigate including the Cache La Poudre (the only Wild and Scenic River in Colorado), Arkansas and Clear Creek rivers.

Gorgeous Golf

If you’re a duffer, you’ll love the extra umph Colorado’s high altitude gives your drive—typically balls will travel up to 15% farther in our thin air. Even if you’re a hacker, your reward will be sensational views from the courses especially near ski resorts. Many of the world’s best golf architects have left their mark on the Colorado golf landscape as well, so you have many options to play like a pro, even if you don’t score like one.

Hiking for All Ages, Skill Levels

The best thing about hiking in Colorado is that you can get to some pretty spectacular vistas within close proximity to cities. For those ready to tackle a bucket-list task, plan to climb a 14er, one of 53 peaks in Colorado that rise above 14,000 feet. There’s great diversity in the trails and paths across the state where your trek can lead to waterfalls, wildflowers and even ancient civilizations.

Travel by Two Wheels

In some areas of the country, bike riding is just a way to get from point A to B as you count the days until you’re old enough to drive. In Colorado, two wheels are the best—and an incredibly fun—way to get down a slope that you would navigate on a board or skis in the winter. There are tons of mountain bike races and trails that are scattered throughout the state, so no matter your stamina, you can find a path that’s perfect for you.
