Colorado Entertainment: Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Denver

Now that we know that the whole Mayan Calendar mess was as momentous as the car odometer rolling over to 100,000 miles (i.e. mildly impressive, but not signifying the "Car Apocalypse"), we can turn our gaze to the future. Specifically December 31st, and as we look around at Events in Colorado, we see that the city of Denver has a festive celebration downtown.

New Year's Eve Fireworks Downtown is the event, with two huge fireworks shows on tap. The first takes place at 9 p.m. (so the kids can get to bed at a decent hour) and another to ring in the new year at midnight.

The best place to view these spectacular pyrotechnics is along the 16th Street Mall, as the launching sites for the fireworks are at two secret locations along the mall. You may "ooh" and "aah" when fireworks go off in the distance on the 4th of July, but it's a lot more amazing when it is up close and directly overhead. It's an experience like no other.

The 16th Street Mall will have plenty to keep you busy leading up to the fireworks. The Southwest Rink at Skyline Park, at Arapahoe on the 16th Street Mall, will be open at 10 a.m. and offer free skate rentals all New Year's Eve. It will remain open until 11 p.m., giving skaters time to get their ankles back in order for the big show at midnight.

What's more, Denver plans on having 10-15 live DJs performing all along the 16th Street Mall, so your final day of 2012 will be filled with the best of dance music. Popular Denver DJ Chonz headlines the event, performing at the Southwest Rink for three hours starting at 7:30 p.m.

Making this celebration a lot more convenient is RTD, as all bus and light rail service is free starting at 7 p.m. New Year's Eve and continuing until 6 a.m. January 1st. Be sure to plan ahead, though, as a lot of folks will be taking RTD up on their generous offer.

Plan ahead for your financial success in 2013 as well by contacting KKB CPAs to learn more about how we can help make your life more enjoyable.
