April in a CPA office is a mad dash to the tax deadline followed by a few of the slowest weeks of the year. It's a weird thing to go through. One week it's ten hour days Sunday through Saturday, the next week it's only a thirty-two hour week since the day after the tax deadline is a holiday.

The week before the deadline is one of tireless work all in order to gain an estimate of owed taxes for extension purposes. The printers run nonstop, the telephones constantly ring, and for the first time all year, the pile of tax returns waiting for us to complete starts to shrink.

And then it’s quiet. The day after the deadline is spent at home trying to recover from the previous three months. Following that, the rest of the week is spent cleaning, organizing, and getting everything done that’s been neglected over the tax season.
